Seeing Uri Geller trending on Twitter over his threat to telepathically stop Brexit reminded me of another tragically embarrassing event that he was part of more than two decades ago at the highly-prestigious Royal Albert Hall. The tale begins on London’s Oxford Street… In late summer 1997 I was handed a flyer advertising ‘The Psychic & the Yogi: A Close Encounter’. The guy giving them out explained that the famed illusionist would lay out his vision of how the world’s ills could be eradicated through the power of thought alone. WOW!!! Having grown up in the ‘70s and ‘80s with Uri Geller making regular appearances on kids’ and early Saturday evening TV bending spoons and whatnot, it certainly got my attention. Plus I was a penniless student at the time and this was going to be a cheap yet unique night out. *CUT TO* The Royal Albert Hall on a balmy early autumn Sunday night in 1997. It was my first time in the home of the Proms, although the way under-capacity audience leant the event an ominous air of disappointment. Excitingly, they’d also promised us goodie bags when we left! Anyway, there was a big build up with a trippy short film setting out all the terrible things going on in the world at the time. Fear not though as everything should be OK because the ‘psychic genius’ would show us how to telepathically make it all better. Groovy, right? Out came Uri Geller himself. He continued with the new age vibe, telling us how war, famine, disease, etc, etc. could be ended just by using our minds. So far, so far out! But then to ‘prove’ his point he performed the lamest end of pier-type trick of ‘sprouting’ a seed. Only then did it come crashing in on my tiny little mind what a load of complete and utter cobblers this whole charade was. I found myself part of a steady stream of people walking out, muttering, and shaking our heads. You visited my home in Sonning, where you also lived. Three years before you became Prime Minister, I predicted your victory when I showed you Winston Churchill’s spoon on my Cadillac, which I asked you to touch. Despite popular public opinion, I also predicted that Donald Trump would become the 45th President of the United States. As you might have read, I am ensuring that Jeremy Corbyn never gets the keys to Number 10 Downing Street, with the power of my mind which I have proved over and again. I will ensure that they bend out of all proportion to ensure that he never takes up residence there. My power has been validated by the CIA, MI5 and Mossad.
