What an inspirational evening last night at the 2018 Australian Geographic Society Gala Awards ceremony in Sydney, where we celebrated incredible feats of adventure and conservation from some truly exemplary Australians – from polar explorers to plastic bag campaigners. We were also honoured to be joined by special guests the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who presented the Young Adventurer and Young Conservationist awards, and who received an honorary conservation award on behalf of HM Queen Elizabeth II for the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project, which is featured on the cover of our next issue. Az állatos téma tökéletes választásnak bizonyult, ugyanis Sussex hercege és neje a Földrajzi Társaság éves gálaestjén vett részt Sydneyben, ahol a vadon élő állatok védelme is szóba került. Mindketten átadtak díjakat is: Markle az év Fiatal Környezetvédője, a 15 éves Sophia Skarparis érdemeit méltatta.
