097 – Hypno – Drowzee, after perfecting its psychic abilities, retreats to the secluded areas of the rotting wastelands north of Mt Moon. There, it burrows itself into the ground, appearing from the outside as a freshly buried grave. It then uses its psychic power to unleash a flood of electrical signals through its brain and adrenal galnds. Through this process, Drowzee systematically short circuits its own brain and nervous system, killing itself while forcing its body to continue animating. This self inflicted brain death triggers Drowzee’s evolution into Hypno. Humans caught near an evolving Drowzee report feeling a terrible stillness in the air, and hearing a dissonant shriek behind them, no matter what their orientation is to the evolving Drowzee. The evolution triggers violent seizures, causing Drowzee’s skeletal system to shatter and grow to hideous proportions. It will then grow its signature mane, splotched, matted, and undulating with tentacle growths. Once the body finishes grafting muscles and connective tissues to its skeleton, the brain activates, signaling the final change into Hypno. After finishing its transformation, it rises from its burial site, standing roughly twelve feet tall, with teeth-baring tentacles biting and exploring its surroundings. Hypno then roams Kanto, feeding on the minds of Pokemon and humans alike. They are infamous for taking trophies from its prey, fashioning skulls, rags, and machinery together to craft clothing, weapons, and its notorious pendulum. 096 – Drowzee Drowzee is known in Kanto as the Dream Eating Beast, who nourishes itself on children’s dreams and nightmares. Drowzees will hypnotize a household family into a somnambulistic state, enter the youngest child’s bedroom, climb into their bed, and plunge a volley of proboscises from its nasal cavity and into the child’s cranium. Children often do not survive the trauma. If they do, they run away immediately afterwards, bleeding and disfigured. Children who do not expire become Drowzee’s mind-controlled servants. Autopsies suggest that Drowzee injects children with a sedative, hijacking the child’s cerebellum and dopamine receptors. Scouting parties reported seeing a group of children squatting in the buildings of an abandoned mining town. The children, aged five to twelve, exhibited glazed-over stares, bleeding noses, facial lacerations, and the inability to stand still or maintain their balance. Reports suggest that the children were “guided” to the mining town, not recalling why they came here or what they sought after. Among rival businesses, families will plant pendants or trinkets in a competing family’s house. These trinkets are associated with attracting a Drowzee to come for the youngest child of the house. 094 – Gengar manipulates shadow magic to raise the dead and fracture reality. Witnesses claim seeing Gengar call shadows and corpses to sprout wires and bleeding mounds of varicose flesh. Gengars infect the minds of pokemon and humans, causing fractal lacerations on its victim’s eyes and skin. ❤ There’s always pressure to do well on a piece like #Gengar, and there’s always commentary in my head saying that it will never be “perfect.” The only way I’ve found to silence this inner critic is to really sit down and feel out what is awesome about this piece, and this series for /me/. And slowly I painted a Gengar that I knew I would love. Like one of my friends told me years ago, “Follow your Weird.” Acknowledge the commentary going on in your mind, and you’ll find your way of maneuvering through it.
