This post is dedicated to those wondering what really is #freebritney ?? • • In 2008 Britney was committed twice to a psychiatric ward after shaving her head, attacking paparazzi, and being seen driving with her young son in her lap. On February 1, 2008 Britney was subjected to court ordered conservatorship (also known as legal guardianship) in which her father, Jamie (not to be confused with her younger sister, Jamie Lynn) was pointed her conservator which means he has control over her financial, professional, and sometimes even personal decision making. While it is intended use is to help those who are unable to make clear decisions themselves some fans believe this continued arrangement is more of an exploit than helpful. Recently her attorney, Stanton Stein (who was originally hired for damage control) has gone on to say Britney “has always been involved in every career and business decision. Period.” Originally the agreement was temporary but by the end of 2008 it was made permanent. Also, Jamie originally had only control over Britney’s estate and physical well being while attorney, Andrew Wallet, the co-conservator, was to manage her financial decisions. Court docs show Jamie now has control over negotiating business opportunities, sell her properties, restrict her visitors, file restraining orders against those he believes will harm Britney’s stability, oversees every purchase she makes (and must be logged into annual court reports), and more. An example of this power being Jamie wanting to extend a restraining order against Britney’s friend/manager, Sam Lufti. The family allegedly believes Lufti encourages Britney to go down a self destructive path and tried to cling on to her for fame. Lufti has been a huge #freebritney supporter since. Many law experts have questioned this 12 year conservatorship despite Britney being so young and productive. It is said it is typically for those older and/or mentally unstable. Despite releasing 4 albums, having a Vegas residency, being a judge on “The X Factor”, and more all while avoiding scandals and public meltdowns thus proving her productivity she still is held down *post continues in comments*
