A legnagyobb showman trónjáról még Charlie Chaplint is letaszította a popkaméleon.

David Bowie-t tartja a XX. század legnagyobb szórakoztatópari művészének a brit közönség – legalábbis azok, akik, szavaztak a BBC Two-n futó Icons című műsor felhívásának eleget téve.

THE 1980 FLOOR SHOW BROADCAST 45 YEARS AGO TODAY – “Beware the savage jaw…” – Today marks the 45th anniversary of the broadcast of David Bowie’s The 1980 Floor Show, which was used as both a promotional tool for Pin Ups and to further break into the American market. It would be Bowie’s last performance as the Ziggy Stardust persona with The Spiders From Mars, though drummer Woody Woodmansey was no longer a part of the band line up. The 1980 Floor Show was a lavish stage production filmed over three days at The Marquee Club in London’s Soho, in front of members of Bowie’s fan club, exclusively for the American NBC TV late night show, The Midnight Special. The show was heavily advertised in the US press in the run up to the broadcast but has never been shown outside of the US or officially released. Only one track, Space Oddity, has ever received an official DVD release and though many fans have found their own way of finding the complete show, most still hanker after a full official release. Meanwhile, don’t forget the Pin Ups Radio Show on Spotify with exclusive recollections from Bowie made in 1973: http://smarturl.it/PinUpsRadioSpotify The current issue of Record Collector (December 2018) celebrates 1973, and among other Bowie-related bits, has a great piece by Kris Needs regarding his close encounters with Ziggy, including witnessing the taping of The 1980 Floor Show. – #BowiePinUps #1980FloorShow

LIFE ON MARS? SINGLE IS 45 TODAY – “As I ask you to focus on…” – David Bowie’s Life On Mars? single was released forty five years ago today in the UK, June 22nd, 1973. Though taken from the 1971 classic, Hunky Dory, it wasn’t released in its own right until 1973. Possibly capitalising on its popularity as a live number during the Ziggy Stardust shows in 1972, the song wasn’t actually performed often on the Aladdin Sane Tour of 1973, during which it was released. Nevertheless, it reached #3 on the official UK singles chart. Pictured here is a still from Mick Rock’s beautiful Life On Mars? promotional video. Alongside it are the sheet music, the music press advert and the single cover (all UK) and the US Hunky Dory cover. David’s handwriting at the top of the montage is taken from the original US trade advert for Hunky Dory, wherein David had scribbled a few notes on a piece of headed hotel stationary from The Warwick in New York regarding each of the tracks on Hunky Dory. Taking into account the insertion and crossing out that David made to his original annotation, the entry for Life On Mars? read: “Life on Mars – This is a sensitive young girl’s reaction to…The Media.”. However, a bit of close quarter scrutiny reveals what he had originally written: “Life on Mars – This is a sensitive young girl’s reaction to songs like My Way, films like Love Story and newspapers.”. This is kind of ironic considering the note Bowie scribbled for Life On Mars? on the back sleeve of Hunky Dory read: “INSPIRED BY FRANKIE”, a reference to My Way being a part of the song’s history. But that’s a whole other story. Watch Mick Rock’s reworked video for Life On Mars?

A vezetői pozíciót betöltők közül Nelson Mandela bizonyult a legnépszerűbbnek.

Alteregói képében – Ziggy Stardusttól a Vékony Fehér Hercegig – ismeretlen hangtájképekre kalauzolt minket.

hozzátéve, hogy a lankadatlan művész a legjobb kollaborációs partnerekkel működött együtt, hogy elérje céljait.

Kathleen Turner színésznő vezette fel a kategóriát, melyben Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe and Billie Holiday is indult:

Bowie sosem látott szintre emelte a szórakoztatás kreativitási fokát, amiért méltó lett erre a koronára.
